Park hours: 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. Open seven days a week.
Dock closes: 6:30 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday March 25th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday April 8th.
Water temperature: At surface 65.12 f., 6.41 D.O. @ 10' 63.70 f., 4.79 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Unseasonably warm weather is pushing the trout bite westward towards deeper, cooler waters. The largest trout of the past week belonged to Sergio Fabin and weighed 10.20#s. It was caught using powerbait in Oakvale Cove.
Crappie are being caught, mostly in small numbers, in the early morning hours throughout the lake. Crappie favor the cover of shade and are most often caught on mini-jigs or live golden shiners.
The bass bite has been good, as a result of the spawn, with some larger females sitting on beds. Doug Hagadorn of Valley Center caught and released a 6.55# bass on crankbait at the South Shore Rock Pile. The bass respond well to crawdads, shad raps, or dark colored plastics.
Catfish are becoming more active. Hipolito Romero caught a monstrous 22.35# blue catfish on cut mackerel west of Senior Shoreline. Lake Wohlford Cats prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
