Water Temperature: 69 degrees Water Level: Average
Dixon Lake trout fishing has slowed slightly, although the rain and cooler weather has brought out fish at various times of the day.
Garlic night crawlers, rainbow PowerBait, and jigs have been the best baits in recent days.
Pier 1, Jack Creek Cove and Whisker Bay remain the most popular fishing spots. One report of limits caught came out of Whisker Bay late in the week. All fish are deep into the water. Rangers recommend casting out as far as possible for the best shot at catching trout or catfish.
Catfish fishing remains steady. Fresh shrimp is reportedly the best bait for catfish. Large catfish continue to be seen throughout Whisker Bay and near the buoy line.
Bass fishing has been excellent. Miguel Torres of Escondido caught a 5 lb. bass on Pier 1 on 5/7. Wayne Forrest of Oceanside caught a 6 lb. bass using a jig in Whisker Bay on 5/14. Experienced anglers have reported seeing extremely large bass near the boat dock and the south shoreline.
Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of “Senior/Military Wednesdays.” Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.
