The trout bite has been excellent all this past week with early morning limits coming out of Senior Shoreline among other places. Big fish of the week belonged to Alex Mateo of San Marcos who caught an 8.80# trout on Senior Shore using salmon/ peach powerbait. Other notable catches included Erin Zumudio’s 8.40# and Franco Gonzalez’s 8.00# Top baits include mice-tails, mini-jigs, and inflated nightcrawlers.

Taylor Oshinski of Valley Center broke the lake record for catfish over the weekend with his catch of a 67.40# blue catfish Saturday March 19th. Mr. Oshinski reportedly caught the fish in Oakvale Cove using cut mackerel and released it after weighing it in on our scales. The record which has undergone a precipitous climb over the last few years continues to grow along with the lake's catfish. The previous record stood for less than six months

The Crappie have begun to spawn and as a result are much more accessible from shore as well as boats. Crappie bite mini-jigs and live golden shiners.

Largemouth bass are becoming increasingly active patrolling the reed lines or lurking near structure waiting to ambush their pray. They respond well to crawdads or dark colored plastics.
