On Friday, May 9, 2008, one chapter ended and a new one begins. At 11:45 a.m., the potential world record largemouth bass know in the press as "Dottie" was found dead of what appears to be natural causes. She ended her life with final stats of 291???2 inches long and weighed in at 19 pounds. The fish that has been the quest of a lifetime by bass angles from around the globe was found floating in the reeds on the north shore of Dixon Lake in Escondido, CA today. The identity of this famous female was substantiated by veteran members of the lakes staff and Jed Dickerson and Mac Weekley, both of Carlsbad, CA. Jed had caught and released the fish back in 2003. At that time it weighed 21.73 pounds. Then in 2006, she was caught again and released, this time by Jed's lifelong friend and fishing companion, Mac Weekley, also from Carlsbad, CA. It is noteworthy that the big female had recently spawned and at the time of her demise appeared to have no eggs left inside her. Her mission in life is complete and only the future will tell if one of the tens of thousands of eggs she deposited in Dixon Lake will someday become the next possible world record Largemouth Bass.
