Trout fishing has been excellent over the past week. Some big trout have been in the 4 to 6-pound range since stocking for the derby. Charlie Pahl (9 years old) of Oceanside battled a 5 lb. 12 oz. trout on 2-pound test line near the Buoy line on a night crawler. Fernando Soto of Vista had a total stringer (5 trout) weighing in at 19 lbs. 15 oz. with his biggest fish at 5 lb. 12 oz. on power worms. Also, Richie Caruso of Carlsbad weighed in a nice 5 lb. 8 oz. trout on a power worm inside of Trout Cove. The best baits have been yellow and green power worms, night crawlers and Thomas Buoyant lures in the fire color proving best. Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and the Buoy line areas have been seeing the most action. Most anglers are reporting average size trout in the 1 to 2-pound range with some larger 4 to 6-pound range thrown into the mix. The last stock was planted April 29, with 1200 pounds of rainbow trout. The LAST STOCK of the trout season was dumped May 14, with 1200 pounds of rainbow trout.

With the recent news of late .... (R.I.P. "Dottie") the bass fishing continues with a few less anglers fishing for the next world's record. One lucky angler of San Diego, Mike Collins, reeled in a nice 10 lb. 3 oz. at Bass Point on Mother's Day. May she also R.I.P. We try to encourage all anglers to "catch and release" any of the bass caught, so the legacy can continue on to the next "lucky" angler..
