The trout fishing has slowed down the past week with fewer and fewer trout being caught. Early morning hours may provide the best chances of catching trout at the near end of the season. The best baits have been yellow and green power worms, night crawlers and Thomas Buoyant lures in the fire color proving best. Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and the Buoy line areas have been seeing the most action. Most anglers are reporting average size trout in the 1 to 2-pound range. The LAST STOCK of the trout season was dumped May 14, with 1200 pounds of rainbow trout.
The FIRST NIGHT of night fishing for the whiskers officially starts Friday, June 27, with 2000 pounds of catfish being stocked that week. Night fishing will be held every Friday and Saturday nights until the end of August. Boats can be rented starting at 5 p.m. and must in by 10:45 p.m. A limited amount of shoreline will provide fishing from shore until 11:45 p.m. Motorboats with trolling motors can be rented for $20.00 and rowboats for $12.00.
A few anglers targeting catfish in the late afternoon/early evening hours have seen some nice cats in the 2 to 4-pound range caught on cut mackerel off Pier # 1.
On Saturday, June 7, 2008, the California Department of Fish and Game will be offering a "Free Fishing Day" with no license required. One MUST still purchase a DAILY fishing permit for all anglers fishing at Dixon Lake. Good luck and have FUN !!!
