The FIRST NIGHT of night fishing for the whiskers officially starts Friday, June 27, with 2000 pounds of catfish being stocked on June 26. Night fishing will be held every Friday and Saturday nights until the end
of August. Boats can be rented starting at 5 P.M. and must in by 10:45 P.M. A limited amount of shoreline will provide fishing from shore until 11:45 P.M. Motorboats with trolling motors can be rented for $20.00 and rowboats for $12.00.
A few anglers targeting catfish in the late afternoon/early evening hours have seen some nice cats in the 2 to 4-pound range caught on cut mackerel off Pier #1. Lucky angler Gary Williams of Escondido worked over a 9 lb. 2 oz. catfish on cut mackerel.
Bass anglers working the shoreline have seen some action in the early morning hours on plastics. A few lunkers are making a presence. Shawn Bowman of Escondido caught a 5-pound bass on a purple plastic worm. Also, Kyle Heigel caught and released a nice 12-pound bucketmouth on a white plastic worm.
Trout action has slowed down to the end with only one trout caught on a plastic while an angler was fishing for bass. Other than that loner trout, we will have to wait for the next trout season to begin in October.
