Wohlford will be closed to the public on weekdays after Labor Day. We will re-open for weekday use at the beginning of trout season in mid-December.
Catfish have been biting throughout the lake. Martin Arenas of Escondido was fishing for bass with a sizeable plastic crawdad yesterday west of Senior Shoreline when he instead landed an 18.10# blue catfish which he released. One hour later Mr. Arenas caught and released another big blue this time a 19.30# catfish on the same bait in virtually the same spot. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel.
Crappie are being caught in small numbers in the early morning or late afternoon. They are most often caught on crappie jigs or live golden shiners.
Small to medium sized bass are being caught with regularity on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and dark colored plastics.
