HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM LAKE CUYAMACA
Our hours have changed. In January the Lake has waterfowl hunting every Wednesday, all day and on Sunday morning. That means we are closed all day on Wednesdays and do not open for fishing on Sundays until 10:00 am. The tackle shop opens at 8 am on weekdays and at 6:00 am on Saturday.
On Wednesday, 4 mallards, 1 Bufflehead and 1 Merganser were taken. There are still a few slots available for one day hunting. The cost is $75.00 for a one day hunt. Please call the district office at 619-447-8123 and ask for Georgia.
We had a little rain on Wednesday. Today is sunny, with a breeze from the east and cool. The trout are still biting.
Notables:
Bill Mace of Spring Valley caught 5 trout weighing a total of 10 1/2 pounds. The largest was 4.4 pounds caught on orange twist at the dike.
Gary Motika of Pine Valley caught 5 trout weighing in at 7 pounds on power worms at Kitchen Cove.
Tom, Tori and Ethan Walton of Temecula caught 12 trout for a total of 20 pounds, the largest 5.7 pounds using homemade trout egg bait at the Willows.
Kari Wiese of Spring Valley caught 4 trout weighing a total of 3.9 pounds on power bait at the wood dock.
Trevor Jester of Oceanside, 10 years old, caught a 5.8 pound trout on rainbow power bait at the Dike.
Jay Yamato of La Jolla caught 5 trout weighing a total of 7 pounds. His largest was 2.2 pounds. He was using green power bait at the Dike.
Michael Loft of Julian caught 5 trout, the largest 4.3 pounds using a Panther Martin.
Keith Sandberg of Escondido caught 5 trout for a total of 9 pounds. The largest was 4.5 pounds, using power bait at the N. Jetty.
Britt Jones of Redondo Beach caught 3 trout, the largest 3.5 pounds on night crawlers at Lone Pine.
Jason Thornton of Ramona caught one bass weighing in at 7.4 pounds on a red/white trout teaser.
Courtland Young of San Diego caught 4 trout for a total weight of 7 pounds. His largest was 5 pounds using power bait w/ night crawler at the Handicap dock.
The free fishing class is held every Saturday at the launch ramp. Meet Ranger Charlie at 10:00 am.
The decontamination wash down is required for all private vessels before a launch. Float tubes and waders must be washed down before using in the Lake. There is a fee for the wash down.
