Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The trout fishing was excellent this past week with many limits being recorded. The largest catch was a 9.90# trout belonging to Jared Parker of Placerville, Ca. It was caught on chunk cheese powerbait in Boat Dock Cove. A 9.50# trout was caught that same day by a bass fisherman who preferred to remain anonymous. Other notable catches included: Will Vasquez's 8.55#,James Woodward's 8.30#, Horacio Pineda's 6.30#, (seven year old) Kaden Wood's 5.45#, Calvin Vaughan's 4.95# and Larry Alvarado's 4.90#.
The hottest spots have been Boat Dock Cove, Senior Shoreline, and the cove adjacent to the South Shore Rock Pile. The best baits have been powerbaits and powerworms (yellow or Green) or inflated nightcrawlers.
The bass bite has yet to turn on, but is expected to begin any day now. Bass can be found around structure and bite in the early mornings and late afternoons.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
