To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesday and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The trout fishing is excellent which should come as no surprise given that 7,500 pounds of Nebraska Tailwalkers were stocked in the span of just a week. Another plant is scheduled for Monday which just might make it the best Christmas ever for local trout fishing. Torbio Garcia had the biggest trout so far with a 10.40# fish caught on a combination of a nightcrawler and rainbow powerbait at the South Shore Rock Pile. Juan Ramirez joins him in the double digit club with his 10.00# taken on powerbait with a powerworm attached on Senior Shoreline. Other notable catches included; Dova Lee's 9.15#, Rene Aguayo's 9.10#, Ben Chastain's 8.30#, Tari Landry's 8.10#, Dan Estell's 7.90# , Bob Steilen's 7.80#,Jordan Stoiloff's 7.75#,Stephen Lopez's 7.50#, Dennis Young's 7.35# and Obed Martinez's 6.90#. So as you can see it was a great week for fishing with both limits and good sized fish being recorded. The top baits are the usual suspects; powerbait, and inflated nightcrawlers and virtually everywhere is hot with the possible exception of Oakvale Cove.

This is an excellent time to be throwing swimbaits in hopes of landing a large bass. Bass can be found near structure and respond best to crawdads, swimbaits, and dark colored plastics.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
