Trout fishing at Dixon Lake has been excellent since the trout stock on 2/11.

Pier 1 remains the most consistent fishing spot for trout, followed by Trout Cove.

Multiple anglers are still reporting using night crawlers with garlic to catch their limits of trout, as well as mini jigs.

Noteworthy trout catches went to Art Ebitner of San Diego who pulled out an 8 lb. trout on 2/12 using a night crawler in Trout Cove, followed by Daniel Bryant of Escondido who brought in another 8 lb. trout on 2/13 using a mini jig near Pier 1.

The catfish bite is relatively strong for those who are fishing for them.

Walter Fairley Jr. and Syl Southall of Murrieta had another stringer of large catfish on 2/14. Fairley and Southall report fresh shrimp being the key to attracting the catfish.

An impressive bass made an appearance this week as well, as Ricky Spagenski of Santee??caught a large mouth bass with an unofficial weight of 12-15 lbs. Spagenski used an imitation trout lure.

Weather and road conditions permitting, Dixon Lake should receive its next stock of 1,500 lbs. of trout on 2/25. Please call the ranger station at (760) 839-4345 for updates.

Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of "Senior/Military Wednesdays." Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit can be purchased at the concession stand for a $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
