Trout fishing at Dixon Lake has remained consistent since its last stock on 2/11.

Trout Cove has picked up speed, with multiple limits being reported by anglers. Pier 1 remains the most popular fishing location as well as Jack Creek Cove.

Night crawlers have been the most popular bait this week, as most anglers are choosing to use them with garlic or to inflate them. Mini jigs, spinners, and rainbow PowerBait also remain effective.

The most noteworthy catch of the week was by Tyler Lauricha of Valley Center, who pulled in a large 9.2 lb. trout on 2/21 using a night crawler in Trout Cove.

The catfish bite remains steady for anglers who choose to fish for them. The most effective bait for catfish is fresh shrimp.

Bass continue to make semi-frequent appearances, as spring is soon approaching. Imitation trout lures and night crawlers have been attracting the small to medium bass.

Weather and road conditions permitting, Dixon Lake should receive its next stock of 1,500 lbs. of trout on 2/25. Please call the ranger station at (760) 839-4345 for updates.

Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of "Senior/Military Wednesdays." Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit can be purchased at the concession stand for a $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
