Trout fishing at Dixon Lake has been excellent with the successful stock on February 25th.

Pier 1 has been the most consistent spot for trout, followed by Jack Creek Cove and Trout Cove. Anglers in boats who head to the buoy line have also done well.

Garlic night crawlers have been reported as the most effective bait since the stock. Mini jigs, Power Bait, and spinners have also reported.

Many limits of trout made appearances this week, as well as a large catch by Gabriel Quiroz of Escondido on 2/25, who brought in an 8 lb. 3 oz. trout using a night crawler on Pier 1.

The catfish bite remains steady for anglers who choose to fish for them. Bass are making more frequent appearances, as spring is soon approaching. Imitation trout lures and night crawlers attract them best.

Mason Copeland of Miramar caught an unofficial 18-20" bass on 2/23 in Whisker Bay, which he reportedly later released.

Weather and road conditions permitting, Dixon Lake should receive its next stock of 1,500 lbs. of trout on 3/11. Please call the ranger station at (760) 839-4345 for updates.

Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of "Senior/Military Wednesdays." Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit can be purchased at the concession stand for a $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
