Park hours: 6:00 A.M. – 7:30 P.M. Open seven days a week.
Dock closes: 7:00 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday April 22nd.
Next Plant: Catfish in July.
Water temperature: At surface 64.70 f., 8.91 D.O. @ 10’ 63.12 f., 7.13 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
It has been over two weeks since the final trout plant, but there are still trout to be had. Just ask Toby Ravago whose limit of 5 trout weighed in at 8.90#s. Mr. Ravago was using rainbow powerbait in Oakvale Cove and limited out before lunchtime on Wednesday. Rainbow powerbait and inflated nightcrawlers have been the top baits.
The bass bite has been good with small to medium sized bass being reported. Mike Hernandez of Valley Center caught and released an 8.50# bass in Boat Dock Cove on a plastic worm. The bass can be found near structure and respond best to crawdads, shad raps, or dark colored plastics.
Overcast skies have helped fuel a resurgent crappie bite and the bluegill have been biting as well. Randy Eddo has the biggest crappie of the month so far at 2.15#s. The sizeable crappie was caught while trolling past the South Shore Rock Pile. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught on crappie jigs or live golden shiners.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
