Dixon Lake trout fishing has slowed as it is preps for catfish season. Occasional trout catches have been seen from anglers who cast far and deep into the water.

If fishing for trout, anglers should use garlic night crawlers, rainbow PowerBait, or mini jigs.

Pier 1, the buoy line, and Whisker Bay have been the most consistent fishing spots, even with the slowing of trout.

Catfish fishing has seen a surge in success as the weather continues to get warmer. Fresh shrimp is the best bait for the catfish. Mackerel is also being reported as effective bait. Brothers Isaac, Joseph, and Benjamin Magana brought in an impressive stringer of catfish on May 29th, with their biggest fish weighing in at 3.3 lbs.

Bass fishing continues strong despite the end of spawning season. Mike Dispensiero of San Marcos brought in another impressive bass on June 2nd weighing in at 6.5 lbs. It was caught near the Boat Dock using an imitation trout lure.

Starting June 5th, the Dixon Lake Whopper Contest will shift gears and feature the new fish of the season: catfish. The first catfish stock is tentatively scheduled for July 10th. Night fishing will also kick off on or near July 10th.

Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of “Senior/Military Wednesdays.” Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.
