Dixon Lake fishing remains steady as it awaits the beginning of catfish season in July. Whisker Bay, Boat Dock Cove, and the south shoreline remain the most consistent fishing spot for catfish, bass, and bluegill. Catfish fishing is relatively steady as the weather continues to heat up.
Multiple catfish catches were reported by anglers this week. Melton Rojas of Escondido brought in a 5.1 lb. catfish using chicken liver in Whisker Bay on 6/19. Carlos Magana of Escondido also caught a 4.9 lb. catfish using stink bait in Whisker Bay on 6/12.
Bass fishing is steady. Large female and male bass have been making appearances near the south shoreline and near the Boat Dock. Imitation trout lures, night crawlers, and Swimbaits have been the most effective baits. Victor Betancourt of Escondido caught an 8.75 lb. bass near Bass Point on 6/17. Hudson Sherr of San Marcos used a Swimbait near Pier 1 to bring in a 9.2 lb. bass on 6/16.
As of June 5th, the Dixon Lake Whopper Contest has shifted gears and is featuring the new fish of the season: catfish. The first catfish stock is tentatively scheduled for July 10th. Night fishing will also kick off on or near July 10th.
Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of “Senior/Military Wednesdays.” Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.
