Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Lake Cuyamaca. We are in the midst of duck hunting so our hours have changed. We are closed all day Wednesdays and closed Sunday mornings until 10 am. After all the rain this week, we have an East Lake and this side of the lake is full. The US has lost approximately 80 percent of Wetland environments to land development and agriculture. The small, compact important vernal pools associated with Lake Cuyamaca are unique in diversity and important to sustain our dwindling wildlife and taxonomical habits. There are approximately 239 species of native plants in the vascular flora in the area. For example: 40 species of native grasses alone, 44 species of sunflower or daisy and 34 members of the pea family. Endangered species in the area are: The white eared pocket mouse, the long eared pocked mouse, the long eared owl, the bald eagle and the blotched salamander. Notables: Jim LaClair of San Diego caught 5 trout weighing in at 7 pounds, the largest was 2 pounds. He was fishing at Lone Pine, using worms. He also caught a 43" sturgeon, that broke his fishing pole. Joey Flower of Julian caught 5 trout for a total weight of 13 pounds, the largest was 4 pounds. He was using power bait at the Dike.

Don't forget the free fishing class on Saturdays. It starts at 10:00 am at the Launch Ramp. Decontamination washdown is required for all private vessels and motors before a launch. Float tubes and waders must be washed down before using the lake. There is a fee for the wash down. For further information or to make reservations for camping, condos or cabins, please call 877-581-9904.
